ABL: LES Workshop – May 2019

A series of presentations were given over a span of two days to identify the state-of-the-art of large- eddy simulations (LES) of atmospheric boundary layers (ABLs) and plan the future course of the ABL project. The presentations were given by LES experts from academia and national labs in and outside Sweden. The topics included numerical methods, high-performance computing, applied mathematics, meteorology, and fluid physics. The conclusion of the workshop was that modeling the boundary conditions at the surface of the Earth and sub-grid scale models for LES of atmospheric boundary layers require immediate attention. These are the main topics in the first phase of the ABL project.
