Machine learning and AI are fast developing disciplines and even experts are lagging behind in catching up with the latest advances. Many PIs within SeRC are not developers but users of AI. Most are familiar with the concepts but perhaps have never had a chance to actually do handson work with modern AI tools even if they are fully capable of understanding the Math behind all the tools.
With this background the SeRC management board has decided to create a short workshop on AI for the PIs. This lunch to lunch workshop will cover topics
Contents
1 Basics of AI (backprop, essential terminology)
2 Attention: what is the fuss about
3 Variational Autoencoders
4 Diffusion models
5 Generative AI
90 min lectures will delivered by experts from with the SeRC community. Each lecture will have pedagogic tone. At the end of the day participants form small groups and work on a project idea with a mentor (who could be a faculty member of senior postdoc). The goal of this exercise is to understand the workflow when you are doing a project with AI.
