Visualization: Organic solar cells design

Organic solar cells, or other photovoltaic devices play an important role in many future technologies. Though, such devices are already used in commercial products, there remain many questions. In this project we focus on the impact of the morphology of the material interfaces on the efficiency of the solar cell. Kinetic Monte-Carlo simulations of the charge transport are performed to establish a relation between structure and properties.

Within this project we develop new concepts for the interactive visualization and exploration of charge trajectories within complex volumes. This includes en easy navigation through the material morphology, effective use of transparency to make features of interest visible without losing the context information. Interesting features, e.g. charge paths can be extracted from the volume and represented in an abstract manner augmented with the essential path properties. This facilitates the comparison of multiple scenarios side by side with the goal of detecting similarities, typical and atypical characteristics.
