PSDE: Large scale data management using iRODS

This project will investigate the use of iRODS as a framework for data management.

IRODS stands for the “Integrated Rule Oriented Data System”, and is a system to annotate data and handle it according to rules and policies. Key features includes querying metadata, the ability to move data from different types of storage (such as staging data to storage close to computational resources for analysis) and the ability to federate iRODS servers.

Initially the project will be focused on sequencing data, and enable the use of the Swedish National Storage initiative, SweStore. In the continuation it will be possible to federate data between both research organizations as well as domains.

The project is coordinated from UPPMAX, and other collaborators include SweStore, eSSENCE, and BILS. For a more detailed project outline, roadmap, and status see
