The Brain-IT community is at the root of e-Science and encompasses: a) neuroinformatics and related areas in computational brain science with computationally heavy tasks like large-scale simulation using HPC and handling (collecting, storing, analyzing, …) of large brain-imaging and other data sets representing data at multiple biological scales from molecule to behavior; b) e-science tool development for multi-scale modeling and simulations, for visualization of brain data achieved from experimental and computational investigations; c) techniques for real-time parallel brain simulation (w.r.t. software, FPGA/VLSI design, neuromorphic chips), and d) the extraction and use of brain information processing principles in neurorobotics and neuromorphic computing applications.
